Inaugural GE Controls User’s Group Conference and Expo a Success

The GE Controls User’s Group (GECUG) held its inaugural conference and expo at the picturesque Hershey Lodge Convention Center and Hotel in Hershey, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Attendees came from many power plants from around North America and Mexico who are users of General Electric's Mark* turbine controls system.

GE control systems for turbines and power plants are very specialized and often require parts and specialized services directly from the OEM. The GE User’s Group was formed to support the community with technical information sharing via online forums and a yearly conference to bring together GE controls users, GE representatives, and vendors.

The conference’s goal to help users Learn, Network, Improve, Connect, and Discover was successfully achieved.

Networking time was provided during several meals, break periods, and activities where GE Controls Users (and GE Frame 5 users) could share their contact information and experiences.

Learning was accomplished by technical presenters from industry and from GE. Demonstrations were given using controller and HMI simulations.

Improvement of attendees knowledge of GE's Mark* Turbine Control Systems was successful

Connecting to the GE Controls User’s community was evident throughout the event

Discovering the latest technologies, software upgrades, product demonstrations, and solutions related to GE Controls was accomplished.

Several engineers and market leaders from General Electric attended the event to showcase the latest in GE Controls and Human to Machine Interface (HMI) technologies. GE representatives provided solutions to each attendees concern and listened to user’s feedback regarding the next generation of GE Control systems and software. One attendee told the steering committee, “I really appreciate having technical speakers from GE at this conference who are able to answer detailed questions…I didn’t want to hear more sales pitches”.

The final day of the conference included Mark VI and VIe training and a discussion from the CEO of Turbine Controls and Excitation (TC&E). The attendees were then treated to a tour of the Antique Auto Museum to view some beautifully preserved automobiles and artifacts. The conference wrapped up with a grand finale dinner and open bar as well as some final samples of Hershey Pennsylvania’s finest commodity…chocolate.

The GECUG steering committee is comprised of users of General Electric's Mark* line of turbine controls. Members of the committee would like to share their knowledge and experiences to help other users while keeping up with the latest evolutions and advancements of GE turbine controls technologies. The inaugural conference inspired several new participants to join the steering committee. As the steering committee grows, so will the opportunities to provide additional growth, learning, and benefits to all conference attendees. The GECUG Steering Committee would like to thank all 2016 conference participants. We look forward to growing next year’s conference and bringing attendees exceptional opportunities by hosting it in Schenectady, NY; the birthplace of GE over 124 years ago.
